Clear up Acne Without Harsh Treatments
Teens are willing to try anything in an attempt to clear acne from their faces, shoulders, back or any other trouble area. As parents it’s our job to ensure that the treatments they’re using are actually safe to use. Most teenagers are lacking the appropriate amount of education about the formation of acne, how to most effectively treat it and ultimately clear acne from their skin. Unfortunately, most parents are lacking in the same area of education. The only thing that many of us can say with some certainty is that acne comes, and it eventually goes—that based on personal experience.
The Unnecessary Use of Harsh Acne Treatments
Most teens opt for harsh acne treatments in an effort to clear acne, without an understanding of how acne actually develops. With a better understanding, it is easy to see how a little bit of patience, combined with a consistent and gentle skin care regimen, can work wonders when trying to clear a complexion from the unwanted invaders known as pimples, zits, blackheads—acne.
Most teens struggling with acne improperly use treatments that are of a gentle nature. Most often, acne is seen as several zit or pimple problems, as opposed to a singular acne problem. For example, many choose to spot treat a zit or pimple, instead of consistently cleaning a potential breakout area. To achieve skin clear of acne, the thought process should be along the lines of prevention. There simply is no cure for acne; however, inflammations can be controlled and it may be an easier process than many think.
Clear Acne Without the Use of Harsh Treatments
Before opting for the visit to the dermatologist for mild to moderate acne, consider the development of a consistent and gentle skin care regimen. There are many “systems” out there, Proactiv being one that has enjoyed a wonderful success rate.
Beginning a skin care regimen with a gentle exfoliating scrub or face wash will help to remove dead skin cells from the epidermis. Dead skin cells are one of the three factors that lead to the development of acne. The other two: Sebum from the skin’s sebaceous gland, and the P-Acne bacteria which lives on the skin. This is one of the reasons benzoyl peroxide, even in the 2.5 percent concentration can be so effective when used properly.
Typically, benzoyl peroxide is used as a spot treatment. It is most effective when used liberally, across entire problem areas. It creates an oxidized environment when applied to the skin, and bacteria cannot live in such an environment. It is also a drying agent, which will help to combat excessive oil on the face—so common to the teenage experience.
Benzoyl peroxide is actually a gentle acne treatment product when coupled with a moisturizer. It is great to clear acne from the skin, and prevent more acne from developing. Simply follow an application with a moisturizer once it has dried. As a note: no topical acne treatment should be used on the skin of the eyelids.
Treating Acne From Inside Out
Acne treatments applied externally are great options to help control acne problems. To aid in their effectiveness, overall health should be considered. Most people don’t drink enough water, and increased water intake will improve overall skin clarity, health and aesthetics. A diet high in antioxidants will also help to keep the skin healthy and functioning optimally.
