Dreaming of Healthy Skin?

As a parent, you want your child to be as healthy as possible at all times, and that should include healthy skin. Our skin is not always the first thing we think of when it comes to maintaining health, but it’s important to remember that the skin is the largest organ of the body and we need it to survive. It’s also the first place where signs of aging appear. That’s not something your child needs to worry about right now, but the earlier you teach healthy skin care practices, the better off your child will be down the road.

Why Teens Have Problems with Healthy Skin

First of all, having acne does not necessarily mean your skin is unhealthy. Yes, acne is caused in part by a bacterium, but it also has to do with sebum production by your skin, which is perfectly natural. Some people are more genetically disposed to acne than most, and in most cases, acne will come and go throughout a child’s teenage years. That being said, utilizing healthy skin practices can not only reduce acne and acne outbreaks, it can reduce the likelihood of other diseases and can make your child feel and look his or her best.

How Parents Can Support Healthy Skin in Teens

The best way to support healthy skin in your teens is probably to encourage that they practice good hygiene. This means showering daily and washing hands with standard soap and hot water whenever it is necessary; after coming in from outside, after eating, after using the bathroom, etc. Teens should be mindful not to over wash, as this can dry out skin, but consistent washing at appropriate times will go a long way towards keeping skin healthy. A good diet is also a crucial factor in healthy skin. Eating lots of fruits and vegetables will provide the body with vitamins and antioxidants that can boost the health of multiple organs, including the skin. Teens with dry skin should also consider using a quality moisturizer to keep the skin hydrated and healthy.

Healthy Skin and Acne Care for Teens

Although acne is a part of life, there are steps you can take to help your teen get through it. For persistent cases of acne, a complete acne care system that includes benzoyl peroxide can really make a huge difference. An acne care system is a little different than just picking up pimple cream in the store. It means a complete regimen of products designed to moisturize the skin, reduce current acne outbreaks and make it less likely that acne will return. Such a system needs to be used consistently and as directed in order to get the results your teen is looking for. Combining a good acne care system with a healthy diet and good hygiene practices can not only keep your teen’s skin looking great, it can promote general good feeling and confidence that your teens will take with them into every activity that they choose to participate.
