Help Your Teen Be Acne Free

After years of scrubbing, many teenagers come to the conclusion that it is impossible for them to become acne free. It is more difficult for some teens than others. Even if your teen has an extremely persistent case of acne, though, following the following tips will help reduce and control breakouts.

Tip #1 for an Acne Free Face: Don’t Pop It!

The temptation to pop a big, nasty zit is a little overwhelming. Popping it, however, will only make the pimple worse. In fact, touching the pimple at all will cause the pore’s sebaceous gland to produce more skin oil. Since the bacteria that cause acne actually eat this oil, teens are only feeding their pimples when them pop and poke at them.

If your teen wants an acne free face, then leave the pimple alone. They can apply spot treatments to it, but don’t try to pop it.

Tip #2 for an Acne Free Face: Eat a Healthy Diet

Eating a well balanced diet will help skin stay healthy, which gives it the ability to heal quickly and fight off infections. Eating well, however, does not mean avoiding chocolate and greasy foods. It is an unfounded myth that eating chocolate and greasy foods will cause acne. Research has shown, however, that eating too many foods that are loaded with carbohydrates and sugar, however, can have a negative impact on the skin.

The key is to eat a balanced diet that contains plenty of grains, fruits, and vegetables. Teens should also take a daily multivitamin to make sure they get all of the nutrients that their body needs. This doesn’t mean that they can’t enjoy some chocolate or pizza. It just means that fatty and sweet foods should be a small part of their diet. Skin is the body’s largest organ. If the body isn’t fed well, then the skin will suffer.

Tip #3 for an Acne Free Face: Choose an Effective Treatment

The teenage body is producing hormones at an astounding rate. This causes the skin to create excessive amounts of oil. Large amounts of skin oil can make it nearly impossible to control acne without an effective treatment product. Luckily, there are several over-the-counter products that can be used for an acne free face.

Some of the most effective acne treatments contain benzoyl peroxide. Soap and water will only wash away a small amount of skin oil, but benzoyl peroxide has the ability to break up the oil and wash it away from pores. Benzoyl peroxide also kills bacteria on contact, so it will eliminate the source of acne once it gets inside the pores. As a bonus, benzoyl peroxide acts as an oxidizer that makes it hard for bacteria to live in pores. This prevents future breakouts.

It is best to start with an acne treatment product that has a low concentration of benzoyl peroxide. A 2.5 percent concentration will help most teens take a big step to becoming acne free.
